Wilton Garden Club Launches Photo Contest
The Wilton Garden Club is pleased to announce its "Discover Outdoor Wilton" Photography Contest from April 1st to October 20th. The contest, open to photographers of all ages, aims to inspire residents to go outside and photograph Wilton in every season and every location - from your backyard in winter or spring to your favorite local tree or stone wall to an amazing vista or a lovely spot on the Norwalk River, whatever appeals to the person behind the camera. All entries will be displayed at Gilbert & Bennett Cultural Center in Georgetown for the month of November. Thanks to a panel of five judges, twelve winning photographs will earn a place in the 2013 Discover Outdoor Wilton calendar, available for sale in December. Proceeds will go towards the club's renovation of its greenhouse at Comstock Center.
Submissions will be accepted at the G & B Center October 10-20, 2012. Photographs may be either black and white or color and must be matted. There is no size limitation on photographs. The twelve winning photos will be announced at the Opening Night Reception on Thursday, November 1, 7-9pm, at the Center. Brochures, including entry forms, are now available in stores in Wilton Center or can be downloaded here.
Photography Walks will be scheduled throughout the next 6 months. The first Photography Walk will take place Sunday, April 29th, at Woodcock Nature Center as part of the upcoming celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day called 'Celebrate Earth. Photograph Trees. Discover Outdoor Wilton.' Walks will be led by Henryk Teraszkiewicz, the Executive Director of Woodcock Nature Center; Daryl Hawk, a professional nature photographer; and Dave Havens, a science teacher from St. Luke's School and invasives plant expert. The flyer can be downloaded here
